One afternoon during homework time, I heard my husband say to our daughter, “Now you do it by yourself. I’m still here to help you, but I want you to do it so that you’ll know that you can do it.”
I don’t think he knew that what he said was so profound.
This moment reminded me of the good Father we too have.
Initially, He teaches and trains us how to do our [heavenly] work that we’ve been assigned to do. Then, once He is sure that we’re ready to get it done, He creates the opportunity for us to do it ourselves.
This doesn’t mean that He leaves us and expects for us to do the rest completely on our own. Rather, He allows us to put our hands to the plow because He wants us to know that we can do it because of the power He has instilled in us.
“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
