My two year old daughter, Kamryn, came to me with a pull-up, wanting me to put it on her.
Thinking I would do so, she began pulling down her clothes until I stopped her, looked at her, and said, “ We are not going backwards; we are moving forward.”
Here are some facts about Kamryn:
She is potty trained.
She doesn’t fear going to the bathroom by herself.
She has proven to us that she can be without pull ups 95% of the time; the other 5% is for bedtime, when she’s asleep.
If I were to have given her what she wanted, she’d get comfortable [again] in what she was trained to get out of.
Many people don’t count the cost when they want to go back to what used to be comfortable.
They don’t consider how going backwards will negatively affect their progress.
As believers, it is important that we take time to remind ourselves that we are moving forward, not backwards.
There is a prize..
There are blessings..
There are rewards..
and there is eternity awaiting us…. as we move forward.
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13-14 NIV
