Embracing What We Can Handle: A Spiritual Reflection

Before I began to pour chips into the palms of my children’s hands, they each asked for a specific number of chips.

In my attempt to give them the requested amount they asked for, chips began to fall out of their hands because their hands didn’t have the capacity to carry them.

God gives us exactly what we need – nothing more, nothing less but according to what we can handle.

Though we may ask for a specific job, car, house, amount of money, or even number of people in our congregation, God will only give us what we can handle.

It isn’t because of age, education, or experience, it is because of our capacity.

When God created each person, He factored in everything that we’d have going on in our lives, and gave us the capacity to match it.

So, even if we don’t get the amount we asked for, we ought to still tell our Heavenly Father ‘Thank you’ for the capacity to handle what we do have.

To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away.”

Matthew 25:15 ESV
