God’s Healing: Focus on the Future, Not the Past

My youngest daughter, Kamryn, previously had a cut on her finger that I properly cared for until it was healed.

After the last bandaid came off, she came back to me wanting another one.

The old wound was healed, yet she wanted to still give it attention that it didn’t need anymore.

The lesson of this moment was bigger than what I witnessed.

Many times, we still want to give attention to what God already healed.

A relationship that didn’t work, loss of a job, or a temporary physical injury are just a few examples.

Though there may be scars left or memories that cannot be erased, we should still acknowledge our healing and the One who cared for us in the process.

God does not want His children to live in the past nor dwell on the things that once caused hurt and pain; instead, He wants us to press on after we’ve received our healing.

Our future needs our attention.

The next generation needs our attention.

God’s commands need our attention.

Lost souls and people that are presently hurting need our attention.

We cannot afford to dwell on what ‘was‘ or ‘used to be‘, because we have a Father that needs our attention to Go and make disciples, and faithfully be the whole, healed, and best version of ourselves.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV
