Listen First or Pay Later

When I take my children to the park, I usually set a timer as a way to doing things within a set timeframe and being okay about it when time is up, as it would be for most regular activities.

Some days ago, when we were at the park and the timer went off, I called to my children to tell them that play time was over and to get moving to the car.

My oldest daughter ran the opposite direction – totally ignoring my command.

Suddenly, she tripped and fell. This wasn’t a major incident that could have resulted in a cut, bruise, or broken bone, but it did make her turn back to me and then decide to follow my command.

Walking to the car, I told her that her incident could have been avoided had she listened to me.

In the same way, the children of God can be of the same way – hotheaded. When God tell us to move on and go another direction, we cannot afford to disobey.

Disobedience always result in hurt, harm, or sometimes danger.

God do not want this for us. When He tells us to do something, it is in our best interest that we do it, whether we like it or not.

There are time restrictions on everything but God. We must learn to let go when He says to do so – or else negative consequences will be awaiting.

“However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you:”

Deuteronomy 28:15 (*I encourage you to read the entire chapter for both the Blessings for Obedience and the Curses for Disobedience)
