My youngest daughter, Kamryn, is in the beginning stages of potty training and has been doing very well with the exception that she has had some accidental moments, which is expected of her.
Some days ago, I heard her using the bathroom.
When I went to the bathroom to go check on her, the mess I thought was in the toilet was actually on the floor.
Instead of me getting upset or frustrated, my heart filled with compassion, which then caused me to be patient and kind toward her.
When she looked up at me with a face that was unsure of whether to be happy or sad about her attempt, I seen my face in a way that God would have seen me whenever I tried to do something in life, but didn’t do perfectly well.
My daughter tried her best to do what she knew to do.
She may not have done it to perfection, but her attempt was worth the effort.
My love didn’t change towards her, neither did I scorn her or make her feel bad about not making it all the way to the toilet.
Because of the unconditional love I have for her, I was able to see past her mistaken, and still be present for her all while ensuring her that she had done a good job and that I was pleased.
That once confused face then turned into a happy one.
She no longer felt bad, pressured, or like a failure because she knew that she had a parent that loved her unconditionally and would honor her attempt to do the right thing.
As for you, the one reading this, may not have done ‘that thing‘ the way you wanted it done or even the way you knew it could be done, however, God still loves you and honors your attempt.
There are too many people that are blantly choosing to disobey instead of making any effort.
We have a loving Father that commends our efforts, not condemns them.
He wants us to keep trying until we get it done the way He wants it done.
This is what 90% of our journey with Jesus will look like – falling, but getting back up again and continuing to move forward.
God loves you.
“For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity.”
Proverbs 24:16 NKJV
