Who Has Your Devotion?

Games, phones, and tablets have become modern time’s top choice of entertainment amongst the youth.

In my home, tablet time has decreased drastically for the top 3 reasons:

  1. Media isn’t filtered as it should be, resulting in children being exposed to negative content.
  2. It takes away the desire to go outside and enjoy nature.
  3. It’s powerful enough to distract children from watching their surroundings and answering people when they are spoken to.

Recently, when my children were having tablet time, I called to them to do something.

No one answered nor moved.

I called again.

Nothing.

This was absolutely unacceptable.

So I told them to do the very thing they weren’t willing to do but needed to do: Put the tablets down!

As those words proceeded from my mouth, it led me to wonder about what might have my attention to the point I’m not responding to God’s call?

What is taking up space and time in my life that’s keeping me from being attentive to what’s happening around me, both in the natural world and spiritual realm?

What am I feeding more – my flesh or my spirit?

No child of God can serve 2 things at once, for one is given access to our hearts, minds, and bodies while the other is not given anything.

God wants our full, undivided attention and devotion.

He wants our ears to be tuned in to His voice when He calls for us to do something.

And our response should be done with urgency.

What if we miss His warnings for what is bound to happen to us or around us?

What if we allow all other voices and noises cancel out His voice?

What might we all be holding onto that is throwing us off our post where Kingdom work is to be done?

God is a jealous god.

He will not allow someone or something else take the place He is to be in because we were all created to serve Him – and no one or nothing else.

What are we doing or what do we have that we’re not willing to give up, but need to give up?

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬
