As I cleaned up my home – picking up and putting away all sorts of toys, books, balls, and blocks and wiping up dried ketchup off the dining table, I got to thinking about how we make it our job, as parents, to clean the messes of our children so often that it becomes a natural thing to do.
In my honest opinion, I don’t believe that children realize how much of a mess they make on a daily basis, let alone how much we make the effort to clean up after them.
People would see how much of a mess they make if good parents didn’t clean up after them.
People would see how imperfect children really are if good parents didn’t clean up after them.
People would see the stains, the filth, and the stench they make if good parents didn’t clean it all up.
In the same way, God is the good parent that cleans up our mess.
If it was not for His love that covers us, no matter how much of a mess we make, people would see all the mistakes, sin, and mishaps we make on a daily basis.
It’s never about making us perfect for the sake of people’s thoughts and opinions about us, rather it’s for us to acknowledge and understand the nature of God and His love for us.
God is love.
Love covers sins and shortcomings.
Love washed and cleans away impurities and makes us new.
Stitched throughout the fabric of His covering lies grace and mercy.
This serves as a reminder that even though we’ve given Him so many reasons to give up on us, turn away from us, expose our wrongs, and leave us in our mess, He is gracious enough to clean up both us and our mess.
This is true love. A love that the world couldn’t give – even if it tried.
"Most of all, have a true love for each other. Love covers many sins."
1 Peter 4:8 NLV
