I could hear my husband from downstairs telling our youngest daughter, Kamryn, to come to him so that He could brush her teeth.
I could also hear her little feet running from room to room and away from him.
He then said to her, “Kam, if you don’t come here, I’m going to have to spank you for not listening.”
Kam, did not listen and continued to run away from him.
Because of her disobedience, my husband followed up doing exactly what he said he was going to do – discipline her.
Warning always comes before destruction and discipline.
God is so merciful and gracious towards us but we must not take His kindness as a weakness.
When we chose to run away from Him out of disobedience, everything he warned us of will come to pass. Therefore, we ought to not be surprised at the outcome.
It is God’s desire that we listen and take heed to His commands.
We are each called to live an obedient lifestyle so that we avoid the punishment that awaits those that are disobedient and turned away from God.
“Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes
will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.”
Proverbs 29:1 NIV
