The Real Inner-me

My son, Kyzer, sat pouting and upset on the couch opposite of where my husband and I sat. We were very sure that nothing happened to him, nor did anyone bother him prior to him feeling like this.

I then asked him to come over to his father and I to talk about it.

When we asked what was wrong, he turned and pointed to his sister who sat on the floor, minding her business and playing with her toys.

I had him to turn back to me, and again, I asked, “What is the problem?

Again, he pointed at his sister.

Knowing for sure that his sister did nothing wrong to him, I put his pointing finger down and turned him towards me as I revealed the truth by saying, “No, the problem is not with her, it’s within yourself.

The real issue was that he was upset that his game time was over.

This moment exemplifies how we can so commonly be quick to point the finger at others as if they’re the problem, when really the problem is within ourselves.

The lesson we can learn of this is that we must self evaluate ourselves first, before God, so that He can reveal the real issue, not what we assume the issue is.

A part of the enemy’s goal is to distort the truth by convincing us that we are not the problem – it’s others, causing unnecessary strife and anger towards our brothers and sisters in Christ.

But when we face truth, the Word of God, we will see the truth for what it is. From this point, we will know how to handle the situation correctly, and with the right help.

Father God will help us get our emotions under control and deal with the right person – that is ourselves.

Many times, the real enemy is not others, it is our inner selves.

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?  How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?  You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
