One evening, as I had my two daughters in the bath tub and was cleaning up my oldest daughter, Kailani, she began to look down and cry about the bubbles that my youngest daughter, Kamryn, began to play with.
Kailani, then began to claim ownership of the bubbles that Kamryn continued to play with and eventually starting crying about the matter.
Seeing how upset it made her, I then explained to her that there was no need to cry nor claim ownership of something that was meant to fade away within a matter of seconds – never meant to last.
In this moment, God began to show me that in the same way Kailani treasured those bubbles, His children are treasuring the things that are never meant to last. Money, cars, clothes, shoes, houses, and fine gold are the very things that people hold so close to their hearts, only to watch it all slip right through their fingers.
But Father God gives us the instruction to treasure not the things of the world because they do not last. But instead, treasure the things that’ll last – for eternity.
Faith is eternal, followers are not.
Hope is eternal, houses and cars are not.
Peace is eternal, pieces of silver or gold are not.
Love is eternal, gifts are not.
Protection (of God) is eternal, a physical weapon is not.
It’s God desire and command that we seek after what truly matters to Him. For when we stand before Him on that Great Day, it will be our hearts that lays before Him to see and judge – not the possessions we attain on earth.
And what we treasured will be the determining factor of where our soul remains – for eternity.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 NIV
