Question: How do you tell your children that they’ve outgrown their favorite piece of clothing?
The answer is simple: Tell them the truth.
My daughter, Kailani, brought me her favorite Princess play dress to put on her. As I looked back and forth at her and the dress, and seen how eager she was to put it on, the ‘sensitive’ part in me shrunk back from telling her that she can no longer fit it.
She began to get upset due to my slow response in honoring her request, and eventually, I had to tell her the truth, but with a hint of love and gentleness.
This moment exemplified how even though God’s truth may feel painful at times, we can trust that it’s never His intention to hurt or shame us. Instead, it frees us from a mindset that limits our growth.
We may have believed that if we’ve outgrown a thing, a relationship, or an environment, that’s the end of it all. But the revealed truth gives us an opportunity to discover how God’s goodness and greatness expands our life and gives us greater than before.
As we continue to grow in both the natural and spirit, God’s truth will surface the things that we need to do away with, so that we give Him the space and opportunity to replace it with bigger and better blessings.
"To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
John 8:31-32 NIV
