My daughter, Kamryn, came and asked me to open a piece of candy that she found somewhere.
Her having a piece of candy wasn’t the issue. The issue was that the candy was old.
From her perspective the candy was good, but from my perspective and knowledge, the candy was not good for her. And as expected, she was upset that I did not let her have it.
Had I opened the candy and gave it to her, I knew that it would not be good to her or for her. This is what she couldn’t understand and she probably thought that I was withholding something good from her; although in reality, I was withholding something bad from her because I foreknew the end results.
How many times have we, the children of God, asked (and probably begged) God to give us something, just to never get it? It may have looked good to us, sounded good, or even made us feel good, yet He continuously withheld it from us.
Have we ever taken a moment to considered why He might be withholding something from us?
Have we ever considered seeing from His perspective?
God is a willing giver, however, He doesn’t willingly give His children anything that He knows isn’t good for them. He isn’t willing to give his children anything that may cause them hurt, harm, or danger.
Even when we cannot understand why the Father is withholding something, we must trust Him enough to make the right decision for us. A decision that is for our good and His glory. In addition, we must remember that God has promised us good things so when we aren’t granted what we want, we have the confidence in knowing that what we do get is good.
"For the Lord God is our sun and our shield.
He gives us grace and glory.
The Lord will withhold no good thing
from those who do what is right."
Psalm 84:11 NLT
