Draw Close

As my husband and I sat in the living room, our daughter, Kailani, yelled to him, “Daddy! Help me! Help me Daddy!”

My husband responded saying, “How can I help when you are across the room. Come to me so that I can help you.”

This moment allowed me realize how we, the children of God, calls Him to help us, yet we remain in the same place.

The place where we fail to pray.

The place where we fail to read His word.

The place where we fail to draw close to Him so that He can draw close to us and help us.

The truth is, He can meet us right where we are. But most times, He choses not to because He wants us to make the initiative to come to Him, which proves that we really need and want His help.

If He always came to us to fix our problems automatically, then it will be engrained in our minds that we do not have to call to Him, which furthermore, makes us feel entitled, prayerless, and faithless.

God the Father is always willing and available to help us, but we must be willing to take the step to draw close so that He can.

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." James 4:8-10 NIV
