At the basis of disciplining my children, I teach and train them to always accept and obey what authority tells them to do, only if what they are commanded to do aligns with the Word of God and honors God. Anything that is opposite that requires them to sin against God, they are not to do it [and that’s where their father and I intervene].
Ultimately, this trains them to understand the importance of obeying God’s commands and living up to His standards, and to focus on what is said, rather than who is speaking.
Sometimes we can become so focused on the person, that we miss or disobey what is said.
As long as what is said is found in scripture, God can use various people as the vessels to keep us on the right path.
Parents are not the only ones that can correct and take part in shaping children, but there are other people, such as teachers, government officials, or leaders, that are meant to enforce what God has commanded so that we live by His standards.
This same teaching applies to adults. God can use [and will use] any vessel He chooses to keep us aligned with His will.
If He can use a rock, or a donkey, or even a child, He can use anyone as a vessel.
"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience."
