One Is Enough

After dinner, I thought it would have been nice to give my children a little sweet treat.

When I first distributed the tiny sweets, I gave them 2-3 pieces at once.

After they ate those pieces up, they came back for more.

This time, I gave only one piece.

My daughter, Kailani, looked down at the one piece in her palm and then glanced over to see the remaining large amount of treats in my hand.

It was clear that the one piece I gave her wasn’t enough to her because she held out her hand for more.

I explained to her that they had enough sweets for the day and that I would give them more at a later time.

In her disappointment, I was reminded of myself, though from Father God’s perspective.

There have been [and still is, as a part of my public confession] things that Father God has blessed me with, but I felt like I needed to have more.

Seeing this from His perspective through His Word, I’ve discovered that this is, indeed, a form of greed, selfishness, and discontentment. These are all attitudes that Father God detests.

As we [parents] come to see how God feels about this, our perspective changes and we’ll then begin to become grateful and content for every blessing, and further teach our children the importance of gratitude.

Throughout my lifetime, I’ve heard older believers say:

“Even IF the Lord doesn’t do another thing for me, I’ll be still grateful because He’s done enough!”

I believe this to be true and I’m challenging myself daily to live up to it by the strength of God.

"I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength."                      Philippians 4:11-13 NIV
