“Help me! Help me!
Please mommy! Help! Fix it!” cried my son, Kyzer, as he followed me around the kitchen with his broken toy car in his hands.
I was in the middle of cleaning up the kitchen, with my yellow rubber gloves on, washing and rinsing dishes from one side to another.
Though he begged, pleaded, and followed me around the kitchen counter and dining room table, I did not want to stop what I was doing because I was “in my cleaning zone”, in addition to being on my short lunch break [WFH job].
I thought that if I continued to make him wait, he would find another toy car to play with and forget about the broken one.
Well……. I was wrong.
His unwavering plea reminded me of the Persistent Widow in Luke 18:1-8.
Our Father God deeply and sincerely care about every matter of our lives. He cares about the things that causes worry and anxiety, the things that we bring to His feet day in and day out, and the things that keeps us up at night, pacing the floor – even though we know that we ought to “not be anxious for anything… (Phillipians 4:6).”
Whatever we bring to Him ought to be left at His feet and never to be picked back up again for us to carry or handle on our own.
When our prayers aren’t answered in “our” timing, the enemy will do everything in his power to convince us that God does not care nor will He answer our prayer so we might as well give it up and leave the matter alone. But God’s Word teaches us that God hears the prayers of the righteous [and answers them (Proverbs 15:29)].
In this parable, this woman did not give up pleading for justice. Time did not matter, people watching or judging her did not matter, nor did any situation or circumstance matter nor changed her approach to the judge.
She was fixed on getting something that she knew belonged to her because of who she was and what she believed about the judge of the people.
She knew that this judge was the ONLY one that could grant it to her.
She understood his power and authority. She understood that this judge had the final say.
What she knew about this judge became all the more fuel for her to present her case and be sure that it stayed before him until her request was answered.
Are we, mothers, parents, men and women of God, this persistent in prayer?
Are we giving up at the first sign that our prayers aren’t answered or answered in the way we wanted them to be answered?
Have we really studied and come to know who our “judge” is and what He has the power and authority to do?
Let’s take a moment to reflect on this reading and be truthful with ourselves.
I challenge every believer to go to Father God, the judge of all people [living and dead], present our requests and pleas to Him and leave them in His hands, and to continuously pray and believe that He will answer His children – by faith in Jesus name.
"And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
