As I sat in the presence of God, He began to expand my understanding of what faith meant and how it works.
I’ve always memorized the scripture that states, “faith without works is dead,” but my understanding of what it meant or what it looked like in real time was a bit dull. Father God provided me with a breakdown of faith that I’ll never forget and I want to take a MOMent to share it with you. Is that okay?
Great!
So God took me back on the times when my siblings and I were kids, and our dad would give us his word that he would come to pick us up for the weekend.
Listen and believe me when I say this: if we did not believe ANYONE else, we believed our daddy. We absolutely did not allow one word, that proceeded from his mouth, fall to the ground. We held on to every word with every ounce of hope we had.
It did not matter how long we had to wait for him or how he came to get us [whether by car, bus, train, or on foot], the only thing that mattered to us was the expectation of leaving our home and going home with him!
The funny thing about these memories were the things that we grabbed to take along with us. It did not matter what we packed up! If I were to guess, it was probably unmatched socks, a sweater, a pair of summer shorts and some rain boots. However, the eagerness within mattered much more than our outer appearance.
Given this example, I took the opportunity to reflect on my faith journey.
“Do I really believe every word that have proceeded from the mouth of God as I have with my earthly father?”
“How am I expressing my faith through my actions? Am I getting ready for the next level in God through obedience?”
“Could there be any doubt that what He has promised me will come to pass? “
“What changes must I make in my life, in this very moment, so that my faith and actions be aligned with Father God’s promises?”
… and the reflective questions continued…..
Through this moment, I learned that faith is not limited to earthly possessions. Faith extends into spiritual realities.
In Hebrews 11:13, we can see that the prophets and believers of Christ did not receive the promises on earth – the things that can expire, be stolen, burned up or destroyed. However, they did receive the ultimate promises of God – peace, eternal life, protection, provision, and salvation. These are the treasures that Matthew 6:19-21 speaks about and because God is eternal, His promises are based on eternal possessions and rewards.
Therefore, as we walk in faith, it is important that we keep a check on our focus and our motives.
If we claim to believe that we are healed, free, and powerful, how are we taking care of our mind, body, and soul? Are we yielding to the Holy Spirit to live in freedom? And are we speaking and living according to His Word?
Faith requires actions. Therefore, we cannot expect to receive any promise, whether on earth or for eternity, if we fail to prepare ourselves for what has been promised.
Let’s make the decision to take action, TODAY!
The Prayer of Faith
"Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." James 5:13-16
