A Demand For Faith

From the back seat, all three of my children were demanding something.

“Mommy I want a burger and French fries…”

“Mommy I want chicken nuggets and ranch…”

and the demands continued for several minutes until I realized how earlier that day, they did not want to obey my commands, yet when it came time for them to want something from me, they felt that I was obligated to give in to their requests.

This reminded me of how I’ve had moments such as these with Father God; not wanting to do anything He has instructed me to do, yet wanting Him to answer every prayer request I’ve raised before Him.

Doesn’t make much sense, huh?

In any relationship, putting in effort works both ways. Both persons contribute the things that matter the most to maintain a healthy relationship.

Being that we are children of God, we must do our part – that is to obey Him, follow Him, and love Him.

Of course He can [and at times will] move and do things for us, regardless of the effort we applied or not. He’s just that good, kind, and faithful to us.

But as for us, when we choose not obey Him in our actions, it’s an indication that we lack the faith that is necessary for God to accomplish His will in our lives.

I want to challenge all believing followers, including YOU, to do your part – obey Father God; and watch Him respond to you in ways you couldn’t think or imagine.

A Scripture for Reflection:

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.……..”

You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.”

James 2:17-24 NIV
