My son, Kyzer, absolutely loves popsicles!
It does not matter to him the time, day or season he eats them, it’s still his all-time favorite treat.
One evening, he asked me for a popsicle, and of course, I allowed him to get one. Minutes later, my daughter, Kailani began to beg and cry for a popsicle.
Knowing that she do not eat popsicles as Kyzer does [and have wasted so many of them in the past], I hesitated on giving her one.
Within seconds of thinking on the decision, I gave her one – just to watch her let it melt right through her little fingers and onto the table she sat at.
The fact of the matter is that she only wanted one because she seen her brother get one and enjoy his.
As I observed this moment, I couldn’t help but to think about the many times we [mothers/adults] must have begged and cried out for things to God only because we seen others with something.
This issue falls under God’s 10th commandment: Do not covet [Exodus 20:12].
To covet means to desire something that is not one’s own. It can involve wanting someone else’s job, wife/husband, possessions, or anything else that belongs to them.
Whenever we go after things because we see that others have them, we are making a statement to Father God saying, “What you have given me is not good enough, therefore, I am not content, nor will I be satisfied with what You have given me. I want more!“
As true followers of Christ, we are to be grateful and content with everything that our Father has already given us because everything that comes from the Father is good and perfect!
Most times, it takes more grace, strength, discipline, and power to possess things that God gave to others and what covetous people do not know is that they may not be able to handle what someone else can handle.
As a result, things go to waste, mishandled, broken, lost, and even forgotten about.
This does not honor God. For since everything belongs to God, we must do our due diligence to steward everything that we have well and honorable to Him.
"Don’t be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have. Since God assured us, “I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,” we can boldly quote,
God is there, ready to help;
I’m fearless no matter what.
Who or what can get to me?"
