I was truly blessed by a game that the youth at my church played during Game Night in the Word.
The objective of the game was for one player to listen to a specific voice – while blinded, amongst several other voices and trust it to provide the right instructions that will lead them to the trusted individual and not astray.
In order for this game to be a success, the blinded individual needed to be very familiar with the voice of the trusted individual.
This meant that there needed to have been an established relationship that consisted of regular time spent together with lots of communication and trust.
The level of intimacy between the blinded player and the trusted individual should have been strong enough to still make a connection over the surrounded chaos and distractions, even if there where voices that sounded like the real one. The blinded player should have been able to still distinguish the voices and follow the right one.
When we place ourselves in this situation, can we honestly say that we are hearing the right voice?
If your answer is yes, how would you know?
If your answer is no, do you know the steps to take in order to become familiar with the voice that can be trusted to lead you along the right path?
I can honestly testify that Father God has never, ever led me astray. Each time I listened to His voice, there was victory, peace, and joy on the other side.
Now that’s a voice that I’ll forever want to follow!
A MOMent to Reflect:
Sometimes we have to do the necessary homework in order to see our progress. Therefore, for this reflection, grab a pen and a piece of paper and follow these instructions.
Draw a line in the middle of the paper.
Label one side “God’s Voice” and on the other side, “Other Voices (including my own)”
Then, under each category, begin to write down some moments when you knew you yielded to your voice or others, and moments when you yielded to God’s.
What are the outcomes?
Did you receive wise counsel that was honorable to God and would lead to eternal life or did you follow wicked counsel that would only lead to death and destruction?
Did you feel the need to be dishonest and cheat your way through or did you trust the Lord with all your heart and knew that He would direct your path?
Every day, we have an opportunity to take a moment to sit in the beautiful presence of God to hear His voice.
As we make this moment a practice, we become familiar with His voice and begin to trust Him to bring us through everything we experience.
And we can be sure that we will win every time…
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
John 10:25-30 NIV
