I have this habit of scrolling through my phone to look at the images of when my children were much younger – like fresh out the womb.
These images always make me a bit emotional because of the memories that I am reminded of.
They have caused me think on the many thoughts and feelings I felt when I first became a mom..
And about the countless times that God had done supernatural things for my family and I..
Or I may just sit to reflect on the relief I felt after experiencing those excruciating contractions (while my husband laid so peacefully and comfortably on the hospital guest bed, ugh!)
I never felt the need to get rid of any of these images because of how much they meant to me – until one day…
A pop-up error message on my phone appeared saying that I needed to get rid of some images and other big files in order to create space for new ones.
Honey, I struggled with trying to decide what images I wanted to save versus the ones I was willing to let go of…
Until I heard this question in my spirit;
“What image are you trying to save?”
What could this mean as a person? A woman of God? A mom?
God wants to completely change us into the image that is best for Him, but in order that this be done, we must first, be willing to change. Secondly, we must get rid of useless parts of us in order to make room for the new.
We spend so much time and energy trying to keep up with an image for the purpose of persuading people that we are in a ‘good place’ and that we are polished to perfection – when really we’re crumbling in the inside.
This is a form of pride.
Pride keeps us from seeking the one that can ‘flip through’ the old images we have in our life and clean them up to make room for the new.
God has called each and every one of us to minister in and through our motherhood journey.
But as we progress, He allows us to experience situations to get us from the ‘old image’ to the new so that we be the purposeful vessels He needs us to be.
He can then pour into us as we pour into the lives of our children and others for the glory of God.
A MOMent to Reflect:
So many times, we get caught up trying to fix an external image when it’s really internal – a (spiritual) heart issue.
We should not be making any effort to please anyone other than God.
To change our image, we must create space for Him and Him only.
No longer do we have to live with the pressures of this world to uphold a perfect image because we were created to be transformed into something new.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
2 Corinthians 5:17
