I find it a bit of humorous when I “think” I’ve cleaned up everything, yet my children seem to prove otherwise. Especially when they were in the crawling stage. Their eyes seem to have become a magnifying glasses that pinpointed every little piece on the floor.
Earlier yesterday, I caught my 11-month-old daughter finding a few things on the floor that I didn’t know was there in the first place. I felt so assured that I cleared the floor thoroughly. (Shame on me, huh) I really didn’t think I’d have to lock my focus in on her in my attempt to get some laundry done.
As I picked up both her and these “unknown” pieces on the floor, a moment of revelation filled my heart with a challenge to check my heart.
This moment helped me to see how we do at times – though unconsciously.
We have this ‘mindset’ to believe that we have all of our ducks in a row. We feel that there is no need to check to see if there’s any out of place or any that are hidden from plain sight.
Having a mindset like this is considered to be prideful and arrogant which is a dangerous place to be for our own sake and for those that are to follow our lead.
The only way to know what’s in our heart, what’s out of place, and what’s not in our heart is through prayer and fasting. God knows EVERYTHING about us – from the inside out. He sees our heart. He knows our intentions and thoughts. Nothing is hidden from Him. He will reveal to us everything that we do that displeases and dishonors Him so that we can make it right.
I thank God for allowing His Word to be the light – and magnifying glass, to reveal the things that I need to clean up in my [spiritual] house.
I am also thankful for my kids to remind me to do better at cleaning up! Lol
A MOMent to Reflect:
The Bible has many functions. As scripture reads in 2 Timothy 3:16,
“All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage];”
Regardless of how many times we tell people how much we love them, give, read the Bible, pray, and fast, there’s going to always be an area that needs improvement.
Good thing we have a true living God that can reveal it and give us what we need to clean it up.
