The Defeating Power of Assumptions

On a early Friday morning, my phone began to blow up with notifications. Glancing at my phone to see what this was all about, I seen that my professor was in the process of grading an assignment that I submitted for the class.

For every comment that she made on the paper, a notification came to my phone. After about the third or fourth comment, I came to the conclusion that I failed.

Anxiety began to flare. The fear of failing the assignment – let alone the course, quickly led me to a dark place of doubt, confusion, and worry that I did not have the capacity to complete the assignment as instructed.

As the notifications continued to appear on my phone screen, I began voicing my troubled thoughts to my husband that showed great concern and compassion for what I was feeling. He then asked the question, “Well… what are you going to do?”

Having made up my mind based on “my assumptions“, I responded by telling him that once the “failed” graded post, I will send an email to my professor asking for another opportunity to redo the assignment.

I did not even read the comments she was making due to the fear* of seeing how poor of a job I did..

So…..I counted myself out.

I failed myself before the teacher even gave the final grade..

I “assumed” that based on the number of unread comments, I did not do well.

Well………… the FINAL grade was posted.

I made a 100% !! (Yayy!)

A MOMent to Reflect:

How many times have God assigned YOU to complete a task – yet, you did not do it or you yielded to a place of fear because of the thoughts and opinions that you “assumed” people where going to make about you? Or you thought that you simply misunderstood the assignment?

I want us to be reminded that we are well-equipped to complete our assignment, in Christ.

To be well-equipped is not limited to physical things, but also to have the wisdom and knowledge of God, grace, strength, peace, an so on. We never want to miss the many blessings that God has for us. Assumptions can lead us to a place of disobedience to God and disbelief that He is our helper. But, it is faith will lead us to believe that we can do it and that we are the women for the job!

"God is within her, she will not fall." Psalm 46:5
