Let’s use the example of saying that you were desperately in need of something.
Something essential, necessary, and unavoidable. What ever this “thing” is, connects with other important things in your life that you must manage. For example, a need for income would have an affect on bills, food, and transportation needs.
One day, I come over to visit you. You began to express your need for “this thing” to me. I respond saying, “Girl, you really don’t need that! Find an alternative and make it work.”
True enough, there are alternatives that may exists in certain instances – but not for all.
With a lack of compassion and need to help you, I brush off the issue that you are facing and think nothing else about it besides making the suggestion to seek other options for help.
Not taking it into account that I have the very “thing” that YOU NEED, I walk away.
I had the power and resources to change your entire situation. Yet, I pushed you off to go find it in other places. So because of my failure to act on the opportunity to help you, your situation has gotten so much worse than it was before. Not only did you end up losing things, but you have also had to make some serious life decisions.
It is clear that I was wrong.
But in reality, the honest truth is that we ALL have been the “I” in this scenario.
“How?” I will explain.
First, understand what the word command means. It means to demand; make an order; direct, and instruct.
Therefore, when God commands us to say something.. release something.. or do something – whether for our family, co-workers, or a complete stranger…
IT IS MANDATORY TO GET IT DONE.
We do not have the right to redirect people to other places, things, or people, when it is God that gave us “something” to give and it is God that have directed people to us.
We should not assume that they are better off finding what they need elsewhere when it is in our power to help them.
A MOMent to Reflect:
Many people have disqualified themselves just as Moses have done when God instructed him to get His people from the hands of Pharaoh and lead them to the Promised Land.
“God, I don’t feel that I have what it takes.“
“I don’t have the education to teach people the Word.”
“I don’t have the skills to get the job done.”
“I don’t know how to be a mother”
In some way or another, these are the excuses that have been given to God as a response to the very thing that He has instructed us to do.
But… thanks be unto God that we have Holy Spirit to teach us and help us do EVERYTHING that God have instructed us to do with the graceful gifts He has placed within us.
"Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them." Proverbs 3:27
